Forgotten Harvest is Hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator Near Oak Park, MI

Summary of Responsibilities: This position will be responsible for the development of partnerships and initiatives involving schools, faith-based groups and civic groups. Focus will be on developing long term relationships amongst target groups to create both volunteer and fundraising opportunities. Additionally, this role is responsible for supporting Volunteer program activities and third party engagement opportunities that generate support for Forgotten Harvest.

Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Uphold Mission, Vision and Values of Forgotten Harvest.
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Actively cultivate new community-based partnerships and stewardship of current relationships within key community groups.
  • Conduct speaking engagements involving diverse audiences. Promote current Forgotten Harvest (FH) fundraising opportunities to new and existing partners.

    • Coins that Count, school-based giving program
  • Support Volunteer Program with recruitment for the Food Rescuers Youth Engagement Initiative, a program that engages students K-8 in the organization’s mission
  • Coordination of annual holiday meal event Hope for the Holidays.
  • Supporting various volunteer opportunities at Forgotten Harvest related events; working closely with Volunteer Manager
  • Represent FH at community events such as volunteer fairs, community outreach events, etc.
  • Support the FH Speakers Bureau as needed, a group of volunteers who attend community events, representing and speaking on behalf of the organization
  • Work with the Development Team to establish and implement activities for annual fundraising with interested schools, faith-based groups and civic groups in accordance with approved budget.
  • Provide support for Forgotten Harvest fundraising events and initiatives as needed
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Emerging Leader’s Council Generation Rescue, a group of young professionals dedicated to Forgotten Harvest’s mission
  • Cultivate and steward a network of supporting organizations
  • Manage Forgotten Harvest online merchandise program and coordinate with the Volunteer program
  • Work with Marketing and Communication staff for promotional and/or social media outreach
  • Bachelor’s degree or some higher education preferred
  • At least two years in fund development and/or volunteer engagement or a related field
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic knowledge of CRM databases preferred, especially Raiser’s Edge or Galaxy
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel in own vehicle throughout Southeast Michigan
  • Some work requires non-business hour activities including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record as determined by FH insurance company, and valid personal auto insurance
  • Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Mix of general office and remote work environment
  • Positioned at desk/office approximately 60% of working time
  • Occasional travel to meetings, appointments, other FH locations, etc.
  • Occasional overtime hours
